The procedure to clear jams from Tray 3 or Tray 4 is the same as for Tray 2. Only tray 2 is shown here. The video shows how to clear a jam from Tray 2 of a HP Color LaserJet M651. The process is the same for a HP Color LaserJet MFP M680

Click the Play arrow below for instructions on clearing a jam from a 500-sheet tray.

  1. Pull the tray completely out of the product by pulling and lifting it up slightly.
  2. Remove any jammed or damaged sheets of paper.
  3. Remove any paper from the feed rollers inside the product.
  4. Reinsert and close the tray.
  5. Open the lower-right door.
  6. Gently pull out any jammed paper.
  7. Close the lower-right door.
  8. Open the right door.
  9. Gently pull out any jammed paper.
  10. If paper is visible entering the bottom of the fuser, gently pull downward to remove it.

CAUTION: Do not touch the rollers on the transfer roller. Contaminants can affect print quality.

  11. Remove the fuser by grasping the handles, squeezing the levers, and then pulling the fuser straight out. Remove any paper jammed in the entrance to the output bin, and check for paper jammed inside the fuser. Paper jammed in the fuser might not be visible when the fuser is installed.

CAUTION: The fuser can be hot while the product is in use. Wait for the fuser to cool before handling it.

  12. Open the jam-access door. If paper is jammed inside the fuser, gently pull it straight up to remove it. If the paper tears, remove all paper fragments.

CAUTION: Even if the body of the fuser has cooled, the rollers that are inside could still be hot. Do not touch the fuser rollers until they have cooled.

  13. Close the jam-access door, and push the fuser completely into the product.
  14. Close the right door.
