Clean the backside scanner when streaks appear on the back side of a 2-sided copy or scan job.

Verify that the backside scanner is dirty. Select a test page to scan. The test page can be a single-sided page.
Place the test page face-up in the document feeder.
Touch the Copy menu on the control panel.
Touch the Sides option.
Select the 2-sided original, 2-sided output option, and then touch OK.
Touch the Start button to copy the test page.
Inspect the output page. If a continuous streak appears on the font side of the copy, the ADF glass needs to be cleaned. See the instructions for cleaning the scanner and white backing.
If a streak appears on the back side of the copy, the backside scanner is contaminated and must be cleaned using the following steps.
Lift the document-feeder latch.
Open the document-feeder cover.
Lift up the document-feeder input tray and leave it in the upright position.
Locate the background selector. Press the two latches on the sides of the background selector toward each other, pull out the background selector, and then set it aside.
Moisten a lint-free cloth with clean water or a high-quality glass cleaner.
Do not use abrasives, acetone, benzene, ammonia, ethyl alcohol, carbon tetrachloride. or any other solvent on any part of the product; these can damage the product.
Do not spray water or glass cleaner into the document feeder.
The scanner glass is on the upper surface of the backside selector cavity. Use a finger to gently wipe the moistened cloth on the entire length of the scanner glass.
Wipe the black strip and white surfaces of the background selector with the moistened cloth.
Place the background selector with the white side up on the document feeder output tray. The latches should be facing out.
Carefully push the background selector in to the cavity until both latches click into place.
Lower the document-feeder input tray.
Lower the document-feeder cover and carefully press down on it until the document-feeder latch clicks into the locked position.
Make a 2-sided copy of the test page again.
Inspect the output copy to verify that the streak no longer appears. Repeat the cleaning process if the streak still appears.
